Starting as a post-Heroes Return revamp of the original Incredible Hulk series, the simply titled, Hulk, features the work of John Byrne, the famed artist known for everything from X-Men and Babe to his revitalizations of Fantastic Four and Superman. However, the new book lasted only eleven issues before Marvel decided to once again put the “Incredible” back into the title. Four years later, the series is still going strong, so the trick seems to have worked, as has continuing to utilize top-level talent like Bruce Jones, Paul Jenkins, and John Romita Jr.
But the days of the intelligent Hulk are long gone. This series went back to basics, and once again focuses on the man inside the monster. Bruce Banner struggles to salvage the shreds of both his sanity and his life, while constantly being overshadowed by the rampaging beast he unwillingly becomes.
